Militarisation of Ukrainian children in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Examples for June 2024
Active actions to militarise Ukrainian children continue in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The main perpetrators of the violation are the Russian youth military-patriotic militant organisation Yunarmiya (over 25,000 members only in Crimea) and DOSAAF (Voluntary Society for the Assistance to the Russian Army, Air Force and Navy). In the last month alone, these organisations held events and camp’s shifts, during which children accompanied recruits to the front and learned about military affairs, etc.
Just for the last period, among the activities carried out:
An event was held for children taken from the TOT of Kupiansk district, Kharkiv region, at the so-called Centre for the Preparation of Citizens for Military Service and Military and Patriotic Education “Yuzhnoberezhny” of the DOSAAF of the Republic of Crimea in Yalta. During this meeting, Russian military personnel, representatives of the occupation authorities, as well as members of the so-called AFU spoke to the children about the heroism of the military in carrying out orders to defend the Motherland (note: we are talking about Russia). Children from the TOT of Ukraine were involved in training in military applied disciplines, participation in airgun shooting competitions, laser tag games, a master class in army hand-to-hand combat , etc. All activities are aimed at militarising children and preparing them for future service in the Russian Armed Forces.
Members of the DOSAAF in the TOT of Yalta have developed a programme “A Holy Deed – to Defend the Motherland” , i.e. Russia. To implement this programme, militarised activities are conducted for children on a regular basis: physical, firearms and drill training, and training in the use of gas masks and protective suits. Such exercises essentially prepare children for the “defence” of the Russian Federation.
From 17 to 27 June, the field camp “Young Defender of the Fatherland – Avangard” took place in the TOT of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, with 100 Crimean children taking part in it. The “junior soldiers” underwent an intensive programme in real field conditions, including the basics of military service. The children were taught to shoot; drill, medical, mountain climbing and orienteering; and a meeting with members of the so-called ‘special military operation’ was organised. The Young Defender of the Motherland programme has been implemented for three years now with the direct support of the main headquarters of the Yunarmiya movement, involving children from TOT. It is aimed at training young people to become “soldiers of the Russian Federation”..
In the camp “Alkadar”, in the TOT of Sevastopol, a change of military orientation “School of Future Commanders” from the “Yunarmiya” of Sevastopol took place. Sevastopol. The programme was held in “honour of the 10th anniversary of the Russian Spring” and was attended by 110 children who took part in a series of master classes: fire and drill training; disassembly and assembly of AK-47; radio communications; protection against weapons of mass destruction; basics of army hand-to-hand combat, etc. In addition, children who are members of the “Unarmiya” in the TOT of Sevastopol Sevastopol, in June, were involved in the activities aimed at sending 40 conscripts to the place of military service in the Russian Federation. Such actions lead to the heroisation of Russian military personnel in the eyes of children from the TOT of Sevastopol. Sevastopol and the honour of military service in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces, destroying Ukrainian identity..
