The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution “Situation of human rights in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine” taking into account the conditions that arose with the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is reported by the news agency “Ukrinform”.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Last year, only 65 countries voted “in favour” this resolution, 25 “against” and 85 “abstained”.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year’s votes were divided as follows: 82 countries voted “in favour” the document, 14 “against” it, and 80 “abstained”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Belarus, China, Cuba, North Korea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mali, Nicaragua, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Zimbabwe voted against.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the ZMINA Center for Human Rights, compared to last year’s vote, Serbia, Armenia, India, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines changed their position to “abstain”.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the information of “UKRINFORM”, among the new in this year’s resolution is the condemnation of Russia’s use of Crimea for the purpose of aggression against Ukraine and to support the attempt of illegal annexation of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Important for our team is the inclusion of a clause condemning “<\/span>inciting hatred towards Ukraine and Ukrainians, as well as spreading disinformation that justifies the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, <\/b>including through the education system<\/b>.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The General Assembly also demands an end to the <\/span>forcible deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia <\/b>and to take the necessary measures for their safe return and reunification with their families.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

We remind that in October of this year, our project manager, Mariia Sulialina, together with other human rights defenders, was in New York to communicate with UN delegations to increase support for voting for the UN General Assembly resolution on the “Situation of human rights in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

And we are glad to see positive dynamics of support for this Resolution and the inclusion of new points, which include Russia’s use of education in the war against Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span>In addition to a number of documents on which the resolution is based, it refers to the resolution “The situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine” is also included in the agenda of the General Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n

The resolution of the UN General Assembly “Situation of human rights in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine\u201d is adopted annually, starting in 2016, and each time contains new provisions and wording.<\/span><\/p>\n
